General Blood Work

Why is the cream applied at night before my bloodwork collection?
A window of 9-12 hours from the time of application to bloodwork collection gives the most accurate view of your levels. If you apply your creams earlier or later than this, your blood levels appear lower or higher than the reference level. We also prefer your blood to be collected in the morning as your own hormone levels fluctuate throughout the day, so this is the best comparison from the last collection,

How long will it take for me to start feeling better?
Please keep in mind that adjusting hormones is NOT a rapid process. If you do not feel better after taking your hormones as prescribed, for at least 8 weeks, and feel that adjustments need to be made – please have your bloodwork done and call our office to book a follow-up appointment (subject to applicable fees).

I am going out of the country for 2 months. When should I do my blood work?
Blood work should be done atleast 6-8 weeks after starting BHRT, or after a dose change. If this time period hasn’t elapsed for this patient, wait for return to the country for the blood test. Remember, always wait at least 3 weeks after blood work for a follow up appointment with you practitioner.

I got my blood work done 2 weeks ago—can I call and ask for my results?
The results are yours and you can ask your practitioner for a copy of them. Keep in mind it takes a great deal of study to be able to interpret the hormone levels. Hormone levels are only one of the aspects your practitioner will use to tailor your program to you. Call our office to book a detailed phone review of your results. Please refer to above for a detailed summary of applicable fees.

The lab personnel said results will be sent in 3 days. Why have you not got them?
We request various hormones to be checked in the blood, some take longer than 3 days to be processed. This is why we ask all our clients to wait for 4 weeks before coming in for the next visit. This guideline provides for the best efficiency for you and your practitioner.

After my repeat blood work can I just call and discuss it over the phone and renew my prescription?
Please book an appointment in order to discuss results at length and renew prescriptions. If for some reason you cannot make it into the clinic we do have options available for phone appointments with our staff. Please refer to above for a detailed breakdown of applicable fees.

I ran out of my prescription for 2 weeks, should I still go for my repeat blood work and come for my appointment?
It takes up to 6 weeks for our body to adjust to any changes to our hormone doses. If for some reason you were NOT consistently taking your hormones for 2 weeks or more we ask that you restart the hormone treatment at the last prescribed dose; do blood work 6 weeks after restarting the BHRT. Hormones are stored in the fat tissue of the body. With discontinuation of the hormone application, levels fall but not quickly enough for symptoms to reappear until 4-6 weeks of no hormone exposure. Please contact the pharmacy for refills.

The lab personnel said results will be sent in 3 days. Why have you not got them?
We request various hormones to be checked in the blood, some will take longer than 3 days to be processed, and hence we request all our clients to wait for 6 weeks before coming in for their next visit. A common source of frustration will be avoided by sticking to this simple rule. We understand your time is valuable, and feel ours is too. Please wait the 6 weeks after blood work to see your practitioner for follow up. This guideline provides for the best efficiency for you and your practitioner, and helps to keep the costs of treatment down.
