Dr. Ron Brown
Dr. Ron Brown, Executive Medical Director leading the team at True Balance, graduated with a fellowship in family Practice from the University of Alberta and then worked 8 years in his rural family practice while in charge of a small hospital. He specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Alberta and has worked 15 years as an Obstetrician at the Grey Nuns Hospital. Dr. Brown also holds an appointment as an Associate Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Alberta and is actively involved in the resident education program. Dr. Brown is also a member of the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is board certified in Functional and Regenerative Medicine by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine through advanced medical training undertaken at the University of South Florida. Dr. Brown’s primary research interests lay in Bio-Identical hormones and Longevity Medicine. He has just published his first book on Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) titled "Discovering Your True Balance with Bioidentical Hormones" in Spring 2011.
As part of the executive staff, Susan Fyfe is an integral component to the leadership and vision here at True Balance. Susan graduated as a registered nurse and has worked in intensive care, the operating room, W.W. Cross and as an in-service nurse/educator. Susan is the mother of four children as well as numerous cats and dogs. Susan has worked with True Balance for the last 10 years. In addition to her clinical experience, Susan is an accomplished Equestrienne and owner-operator of Keno Hills Show Riding Stable with students competing at the national level on the Arabian Horse Show Circuit. Her horse-breeding program garnered her recognition as one of the top 25 Arabian breeders in North America. Susan personally founded and organized the Rescue 100 Foundation that rescued 100 starving horses last year. For her efforts, Susan received the Readers Digest Hero Award for 2009 and is featured on the front cover of the January '09 issue. Susan is a sought after life coach and international motivational speaker and is also a Therapeutic Touch and Reiki practitioner.
Floyd B. Dunphy
As part of the executive staff and Chief Operating Officer, Floyd brings an academic background in the Humanities to the True Balance team. Floyd graduated with a B.A. in Medieval Studies from Saint Francis Xavier University in 1995 and went on to work in event planning and business development. He later graduated with an interdisciplinary M.A. in Culture and Ethics in 2002. He currently is a doctoral candidate completing an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Architecture, Philosophy and the History of Literature at Green College at the University of British Columbia. Floyd publishes on issues of international politics and humanitarian ethics and has a keen interest in how architectured spaces determine the overall quality of human life. His natural tendency towards interdisciplinary thinking contributes well to the team’s overall creative operations in developing innovations which lead the marketplace.
Heather Reese is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Alberta, and has been in Family Practice since 1984. As well as her interest in Bioidentical Hormone Replacement therapy, she has an interest in acupuncture, and has been to China to research and study traditional Chinese medicine. She and her husband are the parents of three grown children. She loves to play all kinds of percussion, and especially jazz drum-set.
Dr. Binns is a family physician that has graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Alberta. She has also earned a B.A. in Literature from the University of Regina. Dr. Binns has been practicing in Edmonton for about 14 years but first became interested in Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy and vitamin D research about three years ago after attending a medical seminar of Dr. Brown's. Her hobbies include running, biking and lifting weights.
Kulshan is an International Medical Doctor (IMG) and joins our team as one of our BHRT specialists. She has been integral in the development of our educational materials for patients on the topic of bioidentical hormones. Also with a keen interest in issues of toxicity, Kulshan has recently developed True Balance's Detoxification program which addresses toxicity on a number of levels: from introductory Ion Detox Footbaths and Infrared Sauna sessions, to more focussed strategies like 10 day medical organ detox cleanses and I.V. detox therapies for heavy metal toxicity. Whatever your concern, Kulshan looks forward to meeting with you an developing a personal health strategy which will lead to a better u.
With specializations in sports physical therapy, medical acupuncture and medical Qi Gong, Gord brings a diverse professional skill-set to the True Balance team. His early achievements include his appointment as the team physiotherapist for the Canadian National Swim Team from 1982-1986 during which time he participated in the 1983 Pan Am Games, 1984 Summer Olympics hosted in Los Angeles, 1985 Pan Pacific Games hosted in Tokyo and the 1986 World Aquatic Championships in Madrid, Spain. More recently, Gord has been involved with Dr. Steven Aung and the CPMA program resident at the University of Alberta which led to his integration of medical acupuncture, physical therapy and Qi Gong. For 12 years Gord co-owned and directed two different physiotherapy clinics but left the business world to contract his services to Nor-Med Therapies where he worked until December of 2008 at which time he joined the team at True Balance. Over the past few years our patients at True Balance have benefited immensely from Gord’s expertise and proficient background in therapeutic practice and we look forward to the continued innovation of clinical programs which set new benchmarks for patient success.
Korisa has been a lab technician with True Balance since 2003. Bringing seven years of her expertise to bear upon the emerging field of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, Korisa has worked alongside Dr. Brown in an effort to aid women in the re-establishment of their youth and health. Other areas of her expertise include extensive knowledge in the blood, saliva and hormone lab-testing field which is used in the restoration of mood, energy levels, libido, and sleep patterns.
Esther has been with us since the beginning of True Balance. She has worked 20 years in the healthcare field and spent her most recent 6 years in the cosmetic skin care industry. Her professional demeanor mixes with her bubbly personality to leave you feeling at home and in capable hands. She would love to guide you through your best options for gaining the results you desire.
Chelsey has worked as an esthetician for 7 years and augments that experience working here at True Balance. She brings to the team a thoroughgoing knowledge regarding all of our procedures and is a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her enthusiasm and confidence will leave you feeling confident as you move forward in considering the appropriate treatment option which will help you achieve a better u.
Amy is an indispensable part of the True Balance front-end administration team and comes to us with twenty years in retail experience. With exceptional people skills and an attentive ear you will feel like you are in capable hands with Amy. Her energy and thoroughgoing professional knowledge will ensure that no detail is left unattended during your time with us here at True Balance.
Holly joins the True Balance team with five years of experience in the field. She has worked at the Stollery Children's and Grey Nun's Hospital. Holly specializes in the areas of dermatology and is part of the team which consults on Botox and Fillers. She also administers the I.V. detox therapy program and assists in the education component of our bioidentical hormone replacement therapy treatments. Holly is an active and dedicated mother of two and has been known to wow with her innovative designing and decorating of cupcakes.
Sheridan joins the True Balance team as a trained and licensed nutritionist and passionate Red seal Chef. Sheridan will teach you how to cook more confidently and give you tips on how to prepare and enjoy those healthy but tricky ingredients like quinoa and black beans. He also specializes in developing personalized plans tailored to the needs of those with chronic disease, dietary restraints or those seeking weight loss or gain. Sheridan takes every step necessary in understanding the effects of your diet on your lifestyle without judgement. Joanne currently runs Dermallusion Permanent Cosmetics out of her office, here at True Balance and can also be found doing her work at the Misericordia Hospital 1 day a week. In addition to permanent make-up, Joanne does reconstructive tattooing for scars due to trauma, surgery, and hypopigmentation. She is especially proud of the work she does changing the lives of women who have survived breast cancer with her reconstructive tattooing.
