Your First Visit
On your first visit, after reviewing your blood work and addressing your concerns, your BHRT specialist will lay out for you a comprehensive hormone treatment plan. The prescription will be faxed by our clinic directly to a compounding pharmacy that is closest to you. As the transdermal creams used in Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy are specifically formulated to each individual’s needs, they can only be obtained from certain compounding pharmacies. A conventional pharmacy like Shopper’s Drug Mart, London Drugs or Rexall cannot produce these transdermal cream prescriptions. The prescription will take a number of days to be completed, so please be patient with the pharmacist as they are doing their best to formulate a medication specially matched to supplement the hormone deficiencies and/or imbalances indicated in your blood work. Only compounding pharmacies can provide the expertise to safely and accurately produce your BHRT transdermal creams.
Our BHRT specialist will also give you a recheck blood work requisition. Ideally 6-8 weeks after the start of your new treatment, you will be required to go recheck your blood work in order to compare pre- and post-treatment hormone levels in order to optimize the treatment plan formulated for you at your next visit. 4-6 weeks after you recheck your blood work (all together 12 wks since your initial visit) you will come for a follow-up appointment with your BHRT specialist. Try to avoid a revisit before at least 4 weeks has elapsed from the day of you blood test. Some of the hormone testing is complicated and will definitely require the full 4 weeks for analysis. This precaution will ensure a full review of your response to treatment is possible. At the follow up visit, your progress on hormone treatment, review of recheck blood work, improvement in symptoms and concerns will be addressed and your treatment plan will be adjusted according to your needs.
